Online Experience A Reflection

While in Online Experience A, I have learned a lot of information on technology, safety, use of technology, and countless other things! Now, I know why the state of Michigan requires this class.

Technology-"the study, development, and application of devices, machines, and techniques for manufacturing and productive processes"  is very important in every aspect of our daily lives. From the dishwashers we use to the computers we work and check Facebook on. Technology simply makes life easier and more convenient. Everything we need is right at our fingertips and so easy to get. By using technology, especially computer technology, we can become a smarter, more dedicated, and a  more influential generation of humans. Over the past 5 years technology has changed a lot. For  example, the graphics, accessories, accessibility, and just the things that we can do in general have changed dramatically. In the next 5 years, I think that everything will continue to change at the same speed if not faster. Some people say that we are in the golden age of technology, because our knowledge and application of technology is increasing so rapidly. In 5 years time, I wonder if there will even be mouses anymore. Will there even be home computers? Will even laptops be a thing of the past? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

For school work, I personally use resource tools like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and the Internet. I also use some social networking like Wiki Spaces. For Online experience however, I use a lot of things! But, I won't count that for my actual "School work." In my personal life, I use the Internet. Specifically. I use things like Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Gmail.

I have learned many thing in Online Experience A. I definitely think that I will use a lot of the information in my personal and school life. For instance, I will most likely create Avatars. Also, I will use social networking sites and applications more, and with better knowledge of them. I know that I will use many of the safety tips that we learned in Online Experience A also. Many of them I did not know, and did not apply to my Internet and technology uses. Now, I will.

I think that iGoogle is the most practical tool that we used this year. This is because it is simple, easy, and very practical. All the things that you can do through iGoogle is amazing (see previous post-screencast o matic)!

The tool that I will most likely NOT use in my personal life again is RSS Feeds. I do not check blogs or website for updates very commonly and so this is of practically no use to me.

The tool that I found the most fun and interesting to create was the avatars. This was because I enjoy creating things and especially integrating art while creating. The assignments were fun and I enjoyed them a lot!

My least favorite tool to create was the iGoogle. This was only because I already had an iGoogle account, so I just sat around while others created One.

1.) This website I used was Sound Cloud and it uses “social sound” meaning that it is easy to share and communicate with others.
2.) Yes, I thought that Sound Cloud was very easy to use! All I had to do was upload a previously loaded file and share or copy the embed code. The only thing I didn’t like was that you couldn’t record directly from the Sound Cloud website. Other than that, I liked Sound Cloud a lot!
3.) I wouldn’t recommend that Mrs. Fowler use this website in the future. The reason I think this is because the websites we already used were perfectly fine and taught me what I need to know, I feel. I think using other website will just make learning about Podcasts repetitive.

Technology article summary

Autism-"a disorder that affects development of social interaction and communication," affects many children today. Because these children have trouble depicting emotions and social behaviors of humans, scientists have created a robot to help called Kaspar. Surprisingly, Kaspar is helping the autistic children very much. Because the robot has only a few emotions, can talk, and has human like skin the children involved with Kaspar are learning basic communication skills that many of them had non of before the study.

One example is a girl named Eden who suffers from autism. Before she started working with Kaspar, Eden wouldn't hug her family or friends and had trouble depicting emotions of others. Now, because of Kaspar, Eden is openly hugging people, often starting the hug herself. Also, she is better at realizing the emotions of others, helping her social behaviors.

If robots like Kaspar become better engineered, and cheaper, they could help with children all over the world with a hand full of diseases! The advancements made with these autistic children and robots could lead to many more!

Zoo Review

The Philadelphia Zoo, located in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park has a very well organized web site, with great pictures and lots of information. The website was very helpful in my research project. The web site is a very helpful tool if you are doing a research project or just looking for information on an amazing zoo!

The Philadelphia Zoo is located at the corner of Girard Avenue and 34th street in Philadelphia's Fairmount park. The Zoo's website has very good directions no matter where you are coming from with detailed maps and simple directions.

I chose to research the Philadelphia Zoo because it is a zoo I have never been to, but have always thought sounded interesting. After briefly looking at the website an finding out some basic information, I knew that they had a very interesting history, with lots of different kinds of animals, including some exotic and endangered animals. In the end, the Philadelphia Zoo was a great choice for my research project.

The Philadelphia Zoo's website was very helpful in collecting my research. This was because the website is very well organized with lots of pictures to help direct you in your search. When using the website, everything I looked for was right where I thought it would be! This helped me in my research tremendously!

The Philadelphia Zoo's website does include pictures that you could use in a presentation. In fact, I did use many of the pictures. The pictures are very professionally done, with great shots of some of the really awesome animals that the Philadelphia Zoo has to show people.

The Philadelphia Zoo, sadly, doesn't have a web cam. So, I could not try it out.

The best part of the Philadelphia Zoo's website is the very detailed explanations of the animals that they have at he Philadelphia Zoo. These explanations tell everything from the amount of the specific animal they have, to the animals diet and habitat. The writers make these explanations very interesting and easy to read. Researching the animals was very easy and fun actually!

Honestly, I don't think the Philadelphia Zoo's website needs any changes. Overall, it is an amazing website with easy accessibility, awesome organization, great pictures and amazing information!Philadelphia Zoo
